SLUDGE DRYING BENEFITS

Low Temperature Sludge Drying Benefits

Sludge Drying Benefits

USA Sludge’s onsite low temperature sludge drying technology and condensate water recovery are odor free sludge treatment systems.  These are easy to operate and deliver cost effective, results.   Our clients save time and money, while meeting and exceeding the EPA quality requirements for Class A bio-solids.

Equipment that a treatment plant operator does not have to fix and no longer operates…

  1. Centrifuge

  2. Filter Press

  3. Digester Pumps and Boilers

  4. Odor Control Equipment

Reporting and Liability

Tremendous reduction in liability and reporting to move to an EPA Class A EQ Bio-solids program.

Eliminate Emissions Permits:

The most advanced energy efficient systems offer an odor free sludge treatment solution, requiring no odor control equipment or emissions permits.

Energy Used:

The dryers can be set up to use alternative energy such as gas, synthetic gas and solar panels.

Sludge Drying and Condensate Water Recovery

Recapture of filtrate water from the dewatering process, the sludge drying and condensate water recovery all can be used as reclaimed water.   Drying one metric ton of solids from 20% to 80% solids.  This will evaporate to 180 gallons or 1,494 lbs of clean condensate water.  The water quality from the condensate water is a distilled water, clean and mineral free.  With a Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) level of near zero and “is drinkable”.

Hauling Contracts

Elimination of hauling contracts.  This also means a lot less wear and tear on trucks and roads.  Carbon emission is reduced with reduction of burning fossil fuels for transportation as sludge volume is decreased by 90%.

Eliminate Composting

By using state of the art, sludge drying technology we can eliminate composting.  By pumping sludge at .007% solids and drying it to Class A EQ Bio-solids.   Within 2 hours after pumping these solids into our drying system, there is no need to use a digesting system.  This process retains  much more of the calorific value than composting piles.  Our clients benefit without without 90 days of odor and decay also the release of Methane from composting. The “carbon footprint” of the 100 lbs. of Nitrogen in compost fertilizer is 6,403 lbs. of CO2.  This is 14.6 times as much as found in synthetic urea fertilizer and is the equivalent of burning 331 gallons of gasoline!

Beneficial Reuse:

Pellets produced by our sludge drying technology can be used differently.   The end use depends upon the type of sludge that is dried.

  1. Municipal Sludge to soil amendment or hydrogen rich energy pellet to be burned.

  2. Milk Sludge (12,000 Btu per Pound) to soil amendment.

  3. Winery Sludge to soil amendment.

  4. Oil Tanker Sludge to energy pellet to be burned with coal
